From a Forum to a Foundation

“Bangladesh Journalists’ Foundation For Consumers & Investors (BJFCI)” is founded by a group of senior working journalists of national dailies and media led by Faruk Ahmed, Economic Editors of The Daily Observer and Md Enamul Haque Babul, Special Correspondent of BSS with the view to serve consumers and investors with a new approach.
In 2005, the BJFCI was founded by Mr. Faruk Ahmed, the then Senior Reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangtha (BSS) followed by Shamim Ara, Managing Editor of The Bangladesh Express and owner of BID Media and Md Enamul Haque Babul of BSS as a forum of journalists with the view to work for the rights of consumers in general and financial consumers in particular and support investors protect their interest.
• The forum started its journey at a big gathering of consumers, journalists, investors, policy makers and society members with former Finance advisor of the Care Taker government Dr Soeb Ahmed at the National Press Club on March 15, 2005 to mark the International Consumers’ Day. Later, more journalists joined the BJFCI which triggered its activities outside the Dhaka.
• During 2005-20010, BJFCI worked for consumers and investors and support them to mitigate their concerns over policies through interactions with the stake holders and meeting all stake holders through two seminars: one on Housing Industry at National Press Club and another one on Digital Platform for real estate market along with associations of bankers, housing and shopping owners at Purbani Hotel in Dhaka in 2008 jointly with the BID media. BJFCI also published supplements on the topics in five national dailies.
• In 2018, the forum leaders decided to turn the BJFCI into a Foundation with new name as Bangladesh Journalists’ Foundation For Consumers And Investors (BJFCI) to work for the wellbeing for the journalists’ community (BJFCI) and serve the humanity.
• The foundation starts formal journey on February 01, 2018 through a gathering of working journalists of leading dailies at National Press Club, Dhaka.


A national executive committee was formed on January 04, 2009 Sunday.

The committee was formed at a general meeting and Faruk Ahmed (BSS) was elected as the chairman and Anisur Rahman (FE) as the secretary general of BJFCI with some key responsibilities. Later, Anisur Rahman took the charge of treasurer and Enamul Haque Babul (BSS) took the charge as secretary general.

BJFCI Ctg Chapter formed on March 01, 2010 Saturday.
A 14-member convening committee of Bangladesh Journalists’ Forum for Consumers and Investors (BJFCI), Chittagong chapter was formed on Saturday. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed of the daily People’s View has been made convenor and Ali Haider of the daily Suprabhat Bangladesh has been made member secretary.
The committee was formed at a meeting of journalists working with local and national dailies, news agencies and electronic media at a city hotel. Other members of the committee are Syed Abdul Wajed (Ittefaq), Nazimuddin Shayamol (Independent), Saleh Noman (Rtv), Saiful Alam (Purbakone), Waliur Rahman (Azadi), Yakub Ali Moni (Karnaphuli), Golam Mowla Murad (Jaijaidin), Shimul Nazrul (Amar Desh), M Shamsul Islam (Naya Diganta), Masud Milad (Prothom Alo), Mahmud Moni (Azadi) and Hajeratuz Shiuli (Radio Today).

BJFCI, REHAB & BID launched Realbazar on April 25, 2010
RealBazar is a digital market of Bangladesh real estate initiated jointly by journalists’ organisation BJFCI, developers’ organisation REHAB and financial news media BID. State Minister for Housing Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan inaugurated this innovative digital market on April 25, 2010 with a vision to ensure transparency in deals, increase bargaining capacity of buyers and boost sales of genuine developers globally.
